GCSE Mathematics Info
You are recommended to run CalFacts from a directory on your fixed disk. You
require at least the following files: CFM.EXE, CF_MATH.DAT, CF_MATH.DBT.
These files are for Mathematics subject. To create your new directory, you
could enter: md C:\cfm (assuming you want to use C: drive) and then copy
all the files from the diskette(s) into this directory.
You need a minimum of 512K RAM available. If you get a message saying not
enough memory, remove any memory resident programs.
Start CalFacts by entering CFM, or CFM BW for black and white monitors, or
CFM LCD for liquid crystal displays on portables.
If absolutely necessary, run CalFacts from a 720K diskette. Alternatively you
could use two 360K drives, with the EXE on A: and the other files on B:. Log
onto the B: drive and enter A:CFM. Slow diskette reads will significantly
degrade performance however.
The operation of CalFacts is very straightforward. Available key presses
are usually displayed at the bottom line of the screen. Occasionally a
pop-up box will appear at the centre of the screen to which you must respond
by selecting your choice (where appropriate) with the left/right arrow keys
and pressing the <Enter> key. Main menu selections are made by moving the
highlight using the left/right arrow keys and pressing the <Enter> key.
Alternatively, the first letter of the menu option may be pressed.
The shareware version will normally be supplied as a single-subject package.
In this case, CalFacts will automatically open the file at the start of the
program and will position the menu highlight over the "Continue" option. In
this event, you do not have to select the "File" option and can simply press
the <Enter> key to proceed through the facts-review/questioning processes.
At any time that the main menu is active, you can also select a display of
progress statistics (although statistics history will not normally be provided
in shareware form), utility options to suppress sound and switch screen
mode, and a topic/keypoint index.
In brief, just remember the following points about operation:
1. Proceed by highlighting the appropriate option and pressing <Enter>.
2. Step back a stage by pressing the <Esc> key.
3. End the program by pressing the <Esc> key at the main menu.
